Frequently Asked Questions

Can I work on a Retirement KITAS?

No. The Retirement KITAS strictly prohibits any form of employment or business activity in Indonesia. If you want to work or run a business, you need an Investor KITAS or Remote Worker KITAS instead.

Do I need to own property to qualify?

No. You need to show proof of accommodation, which can be a rental agreement. Some retirees purchase property through a PT PMA or Hak Pakai arrangement, but it is not a requirement for the visa.

Can my spouse join me on the retirement visa?

Yes. Your spouse can apply for a dependent KITAS linked to your retirement visa. They must also meet health insurance requirements. Children cannot be sponsored under a retirement visa.

Do I need health insurance for a Retirement KITAS?

Yes, proof of health insurance valid in Indonesia is a mandatory requirement for the Retirement KITAS. The policy must provide coverage within Indonesia, including hospitalization and emergency medical treatment. Many applicants use international health insurance providers with Indonesian coverage, or local providers such as Allianz Indonesia or Prudential Indonesia.

Can I work or run a business on a Retirement KITAS?

No, the Retirement KITAS explicitly prohibits employment or business activities in Indonesia. You cannot be employed by any company, run your own business, or perform freelance work. If you wish to work or invest, you must obtain a separate visa such as an Investor KITAS or Remote Worker KITAS. Violating this condition can result in visa revocation and deportation.
